About

That's My Quant or Look at My Quant is a catchphrase originating from a scene from the 2015 comedy-drama film The Big Short in which the character Jared Vennett (portrayed by Ryan Gosling) introduces his quantitative analyst. Online, the catchphrase has achieved ironic virality, often as a comment on posts in which somebody makes an obvious mathematical error, such as Andrew Huberman's Math clip.

Origin

On December 11th, 2015, the biographical comedy-drama film The Big Short premiered.[1] In one scene of the movie, the character Danny Moses (Rafe Spall) questions the underlying math supporting character Jared Vennett's (Ryan Gosling) opinion, with Vennett parrying by introducing his quantitative analyst (his "quant") Ted Jiang (Stanley Wong), mispronouncing his name and hinting at the "all Asians are good at math" stereotype (scene shown below).

- Look at him, that's my quant.
- Your what?
- My quantitative. My math specialist. Look at him, you notice anything different about him? Look at his face. Look at his eyes, I'll give you a hint, his name is Yang. He won a national math competition in China! He doesn't even speak English! Yeah I'm sure of the math.
