"What you claim to identify as"
I'm not a furry, nor have I personally been in correspondence with any for a while, but isn't "what they claim to identify as" just human beings who are interested in anthropomorphic animals and might or might not do cosplay sometimes? I know there are the occasional wild outliers like the "On every level but physical, I am a wolf" guy, but those seem to be an utterly trivial fraction. Is that what this person thinks the whole fandom is?

Of course he thinks that, the two misconceptions that people have about furries are "they think they're animals!" or "they want to molest animals!" – or both, if they're feeling indulgent today. And boy does it get tiresome.
