Dustborn - Why do modern Western games like Dustborn seem so obsessed with vitiligo?

I hate to say it, but it was 100% a tumblr thing a relatively long time ago for people to draw OCs with Vitiligo as a progressive fad to show off how different and socially aware they were.
Now why would I say it's just progressive trendiness rather than a genuine attempt at representation?
Because no-one ever does any other pigmentation disorder (IE melasma, piebaldism) or anything similar. It is ALWAYS vitiligo.

You see, they should be representing the extremely rare but life-changing skin condition re-vitiligo; it's the same thing Michael Jackson and Uncle Ruckus (no relation) has. I think Dustborn really missed a golden opportunity here.
