*Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog In the intro to Super Mario Galaxy, a Toad trapped in a crystal changes expressions from happy when Mario is near to sad when he isn't, creating the expression that he is still conscious inside the crystal and is rejoicing at Mario's presence and despairing at his absence. Mario is near the Toad Mario is further from the Toad The Toad is happy, as though relieved to see Mario The Toad is sad, as though concerned that he can't see Mario anymore The technical explanation for this is that the crystal and Toad within it change between a high-polygon and low-polygon version based on how close the camera, and thus Mario, is to them. It appears that the expression assigned to the high-polygon Toad is different than the low-polygon one, creating this effect. *Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog In the Super Mario Galaxy games, Red Shells seem to have some inexplicable ire towards every Toad except Banktoad. While they are supposed to home in on enemies when thrown, they will also home in on all Toads except for him. In the Super Mario Galaxy games, Red Shells home in on enemies, like in the Mario Kart series. However, they unexpectedly also home in on Toads. Mario throws the shell at an angle to Hint Toad. The shell curves its path to target him. Hint Toad is hit. Even more unexpectedly, Red Shells will target all Toads that aren't Banktoad.
