The plot is far too long to jam into 22 minutes. So much so that nobody in their right mind would even consider doing so without executive input. The last two episodes were quite obviously building up to the Equestria Games, which rd be willing to bet money was the original Season 3 finale. Then Hasbro came along and said, "nah f--- you buddy" and forced them to rewrite the end of season 3 and tack this on to the end of it. If it had been planned from the start, the Equestria Games buildup wouldn't have happened and this would have been at least a 2-part season finale.

To all this people that are saying that this was originally the show finale after the episode, wasn’t that one of the main reasons why we had the giant Twilicorn shitstorm? Some people already pointed this out before.

On the other hand, I didn’t realised until now about the lack of the Equestria Games and makes much sense (with this controversies it wouldn’t be easy,since we were "distracted"). Anyways, Thanks La-..I mean, Hasbro…
