About
Afro-Korean Festival refers to memes and jokes inspired by a tweet originally posted by Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón, who was nominated for the "Best Actress" Oscar award for her work in Emilia Pérez in early 2025. In late January 2025, a number of offensive tweets from the actress's Twitter / X account began making the rounds online, one of which called the 2021 Oscars a "festival afrokoreano" or "Afro-Korean Festival." The tweet was presumably directed at Daniel Kaluuya and Youn Yuh-jung winning Oscar awards that year. In the days following Gascón's tweets, internet users began posting lighthearted jokes about what such a festival could look like.
