For those not in the know: The plot of the comic is that Superman is dying. He's been overcharged with solar energy, and this is near the end of the comic, just a few days left before he finally sacrifices himself. He spends the whole issue doing every good thing he can imagine: he takes down a giant robot attacking the city, dismantles the Fortress of Solitude and starts sending its technology to engineers, repairs buildings that were destroyed in an earlier issue, finds a new home for the City of Kandor, and repurposes a failed cure for his own illness into a cure for cancer. Then, when telling Lois the hard news, he hears someone about to kill themselves.

So he flies as quick as he can, and before the girl can jump…
"Your doctor really did get held up, Regan. It's never as bad as it seems. You're much stronger than you think you are. Remember that."
