The only logical explanation I can give is it doesn't happen in real time. Look at Erza and Ryuko from Fairy Tail and Kill la Kill respectively:


They take at least 30 seconds to switch between modes, but we've seen both transform in just a brief flash with no start up animation. Why they do this? Either fan service or to just waste time before the episode's end, you decide.
