Well, aside from 86’s sexist attitude during her debut episode (Claiming the boys can’t do anything right, blaming them for her mistakes, etc.), then yeah this show was pretty progressive.
At least the writers dropped that one quickly.

I think that was just more or less meant as "typical" child-like behavior. Because a lot of kids will go through that phase where the opposite gender is wrong/icky/evil.
