I actually bought DmC during a Steam sale because I was like "okay time to see if this damn thing was worth all of the complaints people keep making," and to be honest? I actually like it. Not as much as Devil May Cry 3, that one's still my all time favorite DMC game, but really for an "alternate continuity" game I don't really completely see what makes DmC as "bad" as people keep complaining about. Hell I'm willing to bet that if the game had been an original IP instead of having the "devil may cry" name associated with it then people wouldn't have complained nearly as much.
