I really do think that this is what's best for Ridley's identification: A giant, badass space dragon. You could resize Ridley all you want, but, unless it's the NES incarnation, it would be a downsized version of what we perceive him as.
And before you pull the Olimar card, you have to understand: Olimar wasn't compared to anything (besides unidentifiable beasts) in the Pikmin series in terms of size. Ridley is almost always seen fighting Samus in his big stature. It's what he's most known for.
Unless Sakurai makes it work in Smash 5 or is trolling and will announce the "original" Ridley as DLC, I don't see Ridley as being a playable character in the Smash series.
But, as resilient as the supporters are, people will probably die waiting for Ridley to be playable.
Whether or not an official statement comes into play will never stop fans from wanting a character in. Hype for a character won't simply go away. It's why so many weebs wanted Goku playable even though Sakurai deliberately said "no anime/manga characters in Smash". Even if the hyped character doesn't make it in, the people that wanted him in will still buy the game. If you're sore over that, I think you're the one that needs to get over it.
