My cousin was mugged because he foolishly took a shortcut through a bad neighborhood in NYC at night. He knew it was a bad neighborhood but did it anyway. He wasn't "asking for it," or at fault for the mugging. I could still call him foolish for acting in a risky way. It's just simple risk management.

I have a friend who was mugged outside his home in an otherwise decent neighborhood. There was little he could have done to prevent it. Risk management could do nothing to save him.

Rape/sexual assault is the same thing. Little can be done to prevent rape from a close acquaintance or someone with power over you. You can do something about getting black-out-drunk around people of questionable character. The sooner we learn the difference between the two things, the better we will be as a society.

This stinks of a "Listen and believe" mentality in which people are willing to believe unproven claims just because they are scared of social consequences, this is evil, it's evil and I will not stand for it.
