Why is this being downvoted? It's the truth. Nerfs should only happen if they're absolutely necessary. Why? Because that doesn't help the lower-tier characters fare against higher-tier characters; instead, it merely removes options of the character being nerfed, lessening the depth of the game.

Buffing lower-tier characters is the way to go, as the higher-tier characters keep what makes them good while the lower-tier characters now (theoretically) have the same level of potential, giving the game more variety and making it deeper, more balanced, and, most importantly, more fun.

This is why Project M 3.5 is such a massive failure & disappointment because just about every character got nerfed -- severely. The game is now basically PAL Melee, which just flat-out makes it nowhere near as fun to play as both PM 3.0.2 & NTSC Melee are.

Meanwhile, Melee: SD Remix (a Melee mod) is taking a more proper approach: leaving the top-tier characters alone so that they still have all of their options, and buffing characters in each tier lower than S accordingly to how much lower they are. This method keeps everything that makes Melee what it is in tact while simultaneously making it even deeper than it already is, which is brilliant.

Smash 4 should take this same route. It would only make it even better to play than it already is.
