As I understand, he went to bat for Tommy Robinson (or Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon), who is currently in prison for contempt of court and was super involved in one of the cases in question. This guy has been repeatedly treated as a "champion of Free Speech," so of course Elon is supportive of the dude.

For the record, Elon is ignorant of the actual problem. Yaxley's actions could have lead to a mistrial in the case referenced, and he has a history of just being a frankly psychotic outrage peddler. And like most of his ilk, he frames everything he does as in the name of "freedom of speech."
