Cone of Shame

The Cone of Shame is a meme that originates from the 2009 Pixar movie UP. In it, a golden retriever by the name of Dug is placed in a medical device called an Elizabethian Collar as a punishment by his pack. The device is designed to prevent an animal from hurting itself after a surgery. The look of embarassment by animals wearing the device also contributes to the name.

Being a very recent meme, it has no known variations.

It is notable for its massive effect on pop culture, namely for how Up has caused the collar to be known as a “Cone of Shame” by pet owners around the world. This makes the Cone of Shame not just an internet meme, but rather a general pop culture meme. The cone of shame is becoming a very common lolcatz image, along with the T-Shirts being sold in online stores. There is even a Face Book page dedicated to Not likeing the cone of shame.
