About
Cornify started as a spoof of internet companies that are based around a single feature (specifically addthis.com) and receive millions of dollars in investment. The goal was to come up with the most ridiculous single-feature web company, which ended up being a web service for adding cheesy, glittery unicorns and rainbow graphics to any website.
Cornify.com provides various applications/services including browser bookmarklet to cornify websites, an embeddable button for blogs and other sites, a photo cornifier, a desktop application, and more.
Popularity & Inter-web Presence
Within a few days of launch it was picked up by Clay Shirky who wrote "The internet is done, we can all go home and congratulate ourselves on a job well done." on Twitter. Similarly, Bruce Sterling wrote "…the Cornify button is a great Internet invention". These comments sparked a flurry of traffic, which brought Cornify on ESPN, as an April Fool's joke on stackoverflow.com and has inspired office pranks and other humorous participation.
Now Cornify focuses on a daily blog with user-submitted images, adding additional tools for cornificiation, collecting humorous unicorn-related internet content and bringing happiness by spreading unicorns and rainbows across the whole world. Additional plans for games, tools are in the making.
But the true success of Cornify lies in a number of "add X to any website" widgets, where X can be anything from David Hasselhoff to Sharks.
