About

Ooh Mister Darcy is an exploitable comic series based off a webcomic by artist Kate Beaton. The comic depicts a man who arrives home, takes off his shirt, and causes everyone within a 20 mile radius to experience ecstasy while he makes love to a woman.

Origin

The original comic was published on June 8th, 2008 on page 120 of Kate Beaton's webcomic Hark! A Vagrant, titled "Ooh Mister Darcy".[1] The original comic was a comedic strip about Pride and Prejudice and its famous romantic interest, Mister Darcy, parodying the novels vast amount of fan-fiction.

Spread

It gained popularity in the following years, being easily exploitable for its simple drawing format and interchangeable wording. Nearly any book, movie, or video game character could be swapped in and be made into a short fan-fiction.

There are 2 single topic blogs on Tumblr called "Ohh Mister Darcy"[2] and "Ooh, A Fanfiction"[7], but derivatives can be found throughout tumblr with the "ohh mister darcy" tag.[3] Derivatives have also made their way on to Deviant Art[4], and Livejournal.[5]

It is listed under "Fan Works" in the TV Tropes entry for "You Can Leave Your Hat On".[6]
