Since the release of Shenmue in 1999, QTEs (quick-time events) have appeared in many popular modern videogames, often used to add interactivity to cut-scenes or, in any particularly boring games, wake the player up in order to test their reflexes. QTEs have since been used well in other games: the God of War series, Resident Evil 4 and 5, and some of the more recent Tomb Raider games.
