About

Redactive Poetry Project is a single topic blog featuring a bookmarklet application that allows users to construct poetry through redaction, a writing process that involves erasing parts of an original composition (typically written & published by others) to create a smaller body of work in a different context.

Origin

While the history of redactive composition may as well predate the Internet, Redactive Poetry Project was founded by a group of students in an intellectual property class at New York University in March 2010.

From the Blog:

the redactive poetry project was inspired by a poetic method called “erasure,” where a poet erases portions of newsprint or blots out text from a novel, using the remaining words to create a different narrative than the original journalist or author’s intention. unlike traditional erasures, which rely on physical mediums for the original text, the redactive poetry project functions digitally by enabling users to redact portions of text from any webpage on the internet using or RePoMan bookmarklet to create a new poetic work.
