About
"I Put on My Robe and Wizard Hat" is a memorable quote from a chat room log in which a user with the online handle Bloodninja role-plays as a wizard during a mock cybersex session.
Origin
In 2002, a chat log was uploaded to the database Bash.org,[4] featuring a conversation between users Bloodninja and BritneySpears14. In the dialogue, Bloodninja assumes the role of a wizard when the two begin to engage in cybersex, initiating the roleplay with "I put on my robe and wizard hat" (shown below). Although unconfirmed, the Internet humor site Fugly[5] claims to have created the Bloodninja chat logs.

In 2003, the chat log was reposted on Albino Blacksheep.[7] On May 17th, 2005, Urban Dictionary[8] user Melissa Mouse submitted an entry for "I put on my wizard hat," which cited the Bloodninja chat log as the origin of the quote. On June 27th, 2008, the Xkcd[1] published a webcomic titled "Xkcd Loves the Discovery," which referenced the "I put on my robe and wizard hat" line in the 8th panel (shown below).
On August 2nd, 2010, a page for "I Put On My Robe and Wizard Hat" was created on TV Tropes.[2] On April 16th, 2011, a page for Bloodninja was launched on Encyclopedia Dramatica.[3] On September 30th, 2012, YouTuber LilyRaichu uploaded a reading of the chat log (shown below).
On January 9th, 2014, Redditor gn3xu5 submitted a photograph of a bearded dragon wearing a wizard costume titled "Put on my robe and wizard hat" to /r/pics[9] (shown below).
On January 12th, 2015, Redditor N8theGr8 submitted a GIF titled "MRW 18/f/cali tells me she wants to cyber," featuring the character Rupert Giles (played by Anthony Head) in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer putting on a robe and wizard hat (shown below). Prior to being archived, the post gained over 3,200 votes (94% upvoted) and 90 comments on the /r/shittyreactiongifs[6] subreddit. On October 2nd, 2016, a post asking about the origins of the expression was submitted to /r/OutOfTheLoop.[10]

Doesn't show much evidence of explosive growth -- it seems to exist primarily as a catchphrase. The original chatlog was uploaded onto bash.org on 9/30/2002, which is significant because Google Insights only works on search data going back to 2004. If there was any significant increase in search volume from 2002-2004 that has since leveled off, it's not accessible to us through that medium.
Because it started as an IRC conversation, the best place to find derivatives is probably in Omegle and Chatroulette screenies. I'm still looking into that -- there's a lot of people who say they used the phrase that way, but I haven't got much in the way of good screen captures.
Quick question to anyone who knows about writing articles: How to you get the standard "About" and other section titles like all the other articles? And how would I better format the conversation quote?

To clarify the About section a bit, "I put on my robe and wizard hat" serves a declaration of intent to troll a person who solicits cybersex?
What makes this meme really interesting to me is that there's a lot more media associated with it than meets the eye at first glance. Searching Google Images for "robe and wizard hat" reveals plenty of relevant hits, but most of them are ordinary-looking pictures of people (or animals, video game characters, etc.) with the phrase "X put on (his/her) robe and wizard hat" appearing as a plaintext comment somewhere else in the page. The fact that it frequently appears to be a tongue-in-cheek allusion suggests the Bloodninja connection.

The popularity of this meme reached it's peak on May 2009. I can't find a logic reason to this – apparently, the meme just became popular. It isn't the most popular meme but it has mantained it's popularity over the years. It deserves a permanent article. Also, as with every meme, it's become popular in the main English-speaking countries (England, USA, Canada, Australia), but hasn't seen any popularity outside of these countries.

The collection of bloodninja chat logs came from Yahoo Chat circa 1999 to 2002. Naturally the validity of the logs themselves were always in question, but they were indeed presented as having originated from Yahoo Chat. I'm pretty sure I heard about it via ICQ.
