About
Notices Bulge / OwO What's This? is a copypasta parodying both furries and online roleplay subcultures, which is typically used online as a method of trolling. The meme originated from these communities around early 2013 and spread online over the following years. In mid-September 2025, following the murder of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, notably included the meme in an inscription on a bullet casing found during the investigation, causing the meme to spike in virality.
Origin
The phrase originated from online roleplay within the furry community. It and phrases similar to it were used regularly, as well as emoticons such as "OwO."
The earliest known usage of the phrase (below) was on January 6th, 2013, on DeviantArt by user CookiMuffinFaic. It received over 130 views, three comments and three downloads in about three and a half years.[4]

Spread
On June 24, 2015, Imgur user MinotaurusPro uploaded an image of two furries sexually roleplaying while using the phrase (shown below)[7] and on July 2nd, 2015, Tumblr user of-monsters-and-bara posted the image to the site with the caption "WHO DID THIS." While the original post is inaccessible, surviving reblogs indicate that it gained over 60,000 notes in about 1 year.[5]

On July 20th, 2016, Tumblr user pastarrie reblogged a post (below, left) by CommunismKills that used the phrase.[3] The next day, pastarrie made a post (below, right) saying he had edited the post to say it.[1] The first gathered over 20,000 notes and the second 100 notes in approximately 3 weeks.

On July 3rd, 2016, Tumblr user Memeufacturing made a post titled "Me as a furry therapist", which used the phrase.[5] It obtained over 10,000 notes in two months.
Later, on August 4th, 2016, a parody of the song Mr. Brightside containing the phrase, as well as other furry phrases (below, left), was posted localplant.[2] It gained over 4,500 notes in about 3 weeks.

Charlie Kirk Shooter Bullet Casing
In mid-September 2025, investigators found the bolt-action rifle used in the assassination of right-wing political commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk in the woods near Utah Valley University (UVU), where the shooting occurred.
According to reports,[8] messages were found on the bullet casings, one of which (the single round fired that killed Kirk) included, "Notices, bulges." Other writings on the bullets included, "O Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao" (an Italian song dedicated to the Italian resistance fighting against the occupying troops of Nazi Germany), "if you read this you are gay lmao" and "Hey fascist! Catch! up arrow symbol, right arrow symbol and three down arrow symbols," which is a reference to the Eagle 500kg Bomb from the video game Helldivers 2. [9]
