Sassy Gay Friend

The Sassy gay friend meme is one derived from the character of the same name by the comedy group Second City Network. Each video starts out with a tragic character from history who acted rashly, such as Eve, Ophelia and Juliet. As they are about to put themselves in harm’s way, The narrative imagines/shows how the tragedy would’ve been avoided if she’d only had a sassy gay friend to talk her out of it and point out her flawed logic until she realizes her errors. He usually uses cultural puns and cattily compliments them and bemoans their poor choices. Afterward he usually leaves with them, lovingly declares them or sometimes himself as ‘a stupid bitch’.

Rising in popularity, his phrases eventually lent itself to a very versatile meme allowing users to put nearly anything in the place of the female characters. Standard catchphrases include -
