See The Winner Of August 2026's Meme Of The Month!
And the winner of August's Meme of the Month award, with 13.3 percent of the total votes, is …
The "Lesbian Space Princess Fandom War," also known as the "Great Fandom Truce of 2026!" This trend was all about the biggest fandoms on the internet coming together to hate on the movie Lesbian Space Princess.
Despite being well received by some critics, the internet was not too kind to the Australian animated film Lesbian Space Princess when it dropped on Netflix in August. Many found it cringe and generally unfunny. The film became the widespread subject of mockery across social media via memes, edits and more.
It became so thoroughly mocked that fandoms from across the internet called a truce. They stopped tearing each other apart and joined forces to relentlessly make fun of Lesbian Space Princess, resulting in memes that show the fandoms teaming up just this once to unleash their full power on the movie.
Congratulations, Fandom Truce, for winning August's Meme of the Month award!
La Peace
In second, with about 11 percent of the total votes, is "La Peace," a series of memes based on a clip of streamer Kai Cenat pronouncing the Minecraft resource lapis lazuli as "la peace."
The clip comes from a collaborative Minecraft stream between Cenat and IShowSpeed. In the clip, Speed excitedly finds what he believes is a block of diamonds. Cenat quickly bursts his bubble by telling him that it's not actually diamonds, but lapis lazuli, which he pronounces simply as "la peace." Speed, confused, asks what "la peace" is, wondering if it's something "Greek."
This clip went viral on sites like TikTok and Instagram Reels and inspired memes that depict Cenat as a peaceful monk or ancient Greek philosopher. The memes started with simple edits that overlay an image of Cenat as a monk over the original clip, before evolving into full-blown video edits.

Petra Parker
Coming in third place, with 9 percent of the total votes, is the Petra Parker fan art trend.
This trend had Spider-Man fans drawing the famous webslinging superhero as a trans woman named Petra Parker. The trend started when an X user imagined a scenario in which J. Jonah Jameson struggles to remember that Spider-Man has transitioned to Spider-Woman and keeps accidentally calling her the wrong name. The scenario was drawn by an artist, which inspired a wave of similar artwork depicting Petra Parker.
Petra Parker fan art took over X feeds in August as artists offered up their interpretations of the superhero. Many were based on the design of the pre-existing Ultimate Spider-Man Petra Parker, a version of Spider-Man from a gender swapped universe. Others took her in new directions that celebrate her trans identity and set her apart from the already established version of Petra Parker.
Gucci Morty
In fourth place, with 8 percent of the total votes, is "Gucci Morty," an edit of the Rick and Morty protagonist Morty dripped out in Gucci with a slick new haircut and a really chill look on his face.
Gucci Morty first appeared on Instagram in the middle of August. This simple edit takes the character we know and shows him in a new, aura-filled light. While it would have been easy to let the edit fall into obscurity, the internet instead decided to turn Gucci Morty into a huge meme on sites like TikTok, X and Instagram Reels.
Throughout the latter half of August, Gucci Morty became an ironic meme character as users hyped him up for his immeasurable aura levels. Memes about Gucci Morty included stylized edits that set the image to music, further edits that imagine other characters from the show in a similar dripped-out style and fan art that depicts Gucci Morty in different artistic styles.
Niu Lai
Finally, coming in at fifth place with 7 percent of the total votes is Niu Lai, a Chinese animated film that became one of the biggest so-bad-it's-good movies in recent memory.
Niu Lai is a movie about a cow who finds himself stuck in a dreamscape that's meant to teach him how to be courageous. The low-budget film debuted in China with little advertising or hype. Theaters weren't even provided with posters to advertise the film, meaning theater employees had to draw their own.
On top of all that, the film has noticeably bad animation and an overall bizarre vibe, resulting in it making very little money when it was first released.
But as the film's poor quality spread through word of mouth, people actually started going to see it for themselves to see just how bad it could be. This turned the movie into a hit, as filmgoers praised it as a movie that was so bad, it had to be seen to be believed.
Clips from Niu Lai went viral not only in China, but in North America, causing further interest in the movie, including enough interest to win it the number five spot in our Meme of the Month poll.

@chinaminutes Niu Lai will return in Avengers: Doomsday. 🥹🥹 Before anyone gets too excited…..it’s just a meme. The clip is a parody created by Chinese netizen Kindsou on Douyin, who decided to give Niu Lai its very own Marvel-style post-credits scene. Niu Lai (《牛来》) started as a small passion project made over five years by Xin Yumeng and his mother, who handled almost everything themselves. Initially seen by almost no one, its bizarre homemade 3D animation eventually caught the internet’s attention, turning the low-budget film into an unexpected viral sensation. Now, Niu Lai has basically become a meme format of its own, spawning endless stickers, inspiring Chinese brands to recreate its distinctive animation style in their ads, and prompting netizens to make their own versions starring themselves and even their pets. And now, the meme is clearly spreading beyond Chinese social media too. At this point, when can we expect Niu Lai 2 to finally come out? 😭 #postcredit #marvel #avengers #niulai #chinesemovie ♬ original sound – China Minutes

And now for the memes that didn't quite make the top five.
Rounding out the top ten we had "Verity," "John Politics," the "Other Cavaliers," "Just This Once" and the "Just Arrived In Japan" meme. These were closely followed by the "Wattpad Migration," "Robert Loggia" memes, "Three Layer Dip Stack," "DanTDM MineCon memes," and the "Misery Girl" memes.
