I seriously want to know what kind of software – probably mobile – people use that mangles screengrabs so badly, maybe a stir-fried meme generator I'm not aware? For most text on a flat background, it's best to use PNG for both quality and image size. If there's too much detail, then you start busting the JPEG.

That one is still JPEG, but high quality enough that there are almost no artifacts in the text, probably good enough even for OCR (OCR hates JPEG with a passion, as I found out when trying to use it on screengrabs of decade-old imageboard threads).
