Honestly, I hate it when people attack someone for defending someone they were close with even if they were in the wrong. I hate what ProJared did, but I still believe in the right to Innocent until proven guilty and a fair trial. And if someone you personally knew was in such a position, your trust may be the thing that helps them. Really, it's the worst for those people, because not only do they get the backlash for defending someone in the wrong, they also realise their trust was put in the wrong place and they have been lied to. I don't blame PBG for trying to put his "so-called friend's" trust into someone only for it to sadly fall apart, and I don't want to blast him for it.

We don't NEED a court of jury to condemn someone to ostracism… but we should WANT that level of assurance. Social ostracism is not a trivial punishment, much as people often treat it so.

"Innocent until proven guilty" is increasingly being treated as pesky bureaucratic red tape that only lawyers need to contend with ("this isn't a trial, so…"), instead of what it actually is: the ideal standard of judgement for everyone to aspire to. We may not have an actual trial verdict, but we should want the same weight of evidence before acting on personal judgement.

Note that I'm speaking generally. I don't know the specifics of this case.
