25 Recipe Reviews By People Who Should Stay Out Of The Kitchen

If you weren't taught how to do it growing up, cooking can be pretty intimidating. Everyone has to do it at some point, but it isn't easy. Some people are naturally good chefs, others should just not try ever again. One thing that makes it all a whole lot easier though is online recipes. There are some amazing cooks out there taking the time to share their recipes with the rest of the world, like true heroes. These online recipes are helpful for everyone, like families, students, and people deciding what to bring to a potluck. They can be life savers.

Many of these recipes come down to the reviews, though, and unfortunately anyone can leave a review, whether they know what they're doing or not. That's how these innocent recipes end up with some of the most insane reviews out there. People complain about how their meal didn't turn out while also admitting to making a dozen changes. It's frightening the way some people's brains work. Here are 25 wild recipe reviews from Reddit's /r/ididnthaveeggs from people who need to stay far away from any kitchen.

At least she owned up to it

Lauren Kerr 1 week ago I just made these, and there's got to be something off about the proportions of flour to sugar and butter. I followed the recipe to the letter, and even after chilling the cookies spread out to millimeter- thin pools that had no substance and had to be scraped off the parchment. 237 grams of sugar, 113 grams of butter, and only 211 grams of flour? I'm a very experienced home baker and I've never had a disaster like this with a NYT recipe. Also, SO MUCH EFFORT to grate all that piloncillo agh. Is this helpful? 11 Lauren Kerr 1 week ago And... my bad. I doubled everything in the recipe except the flour... oops! Will try making it again because it seems awesome. Is this helpful? 11

For garlic chicken thighs

CD Miriam JANUARY 22, 2024 AT 12:23 PM Here's the thing: I like moderately seasoned food, but I don't care for more than 2 cloves of garlic in a recipe that serves, say, 6. When I read that a dish is garlicky, I take that as a warning, not an enticement. I like most other alliums. So what can I substitute for garlic in this recipe? Otherwise I'm with you - dark meat rules! REPLY

Spicy tomato rocks

Aggie's Kitchen 115k volgers Slow Cooker Lentil and Quinoa Chili 68 opmerkingen 07/17 Beantwoorden 2 reacties Tommski Volgen Pretty gross really. Think the recipe was fine and user error was the issue. I added in some tomato paste, used dried beans (so that I could soak them over night ...cuz, you know), and added some jalapeños before cooking. Do none of that. Trust me. No pile of cheese and sour cream could salvage this bucket of spicy tomato rocks. 10/17 Beantwoorden Antwoorden verbergen Jonathan Shottan This is amazing. 10/17 18 reacties Beantwoorden 1 reactie ...

"Gives the same vibe"

I made this but not vegan and it was delicious. I followed the recipe to a T, except added ground italian sausage, diced celery, and diced mushrooms and instead of Pomegranate Molasses for the sauce (cause where tf do you buy that??) I used. Habenero Pepper jelly with a little bit of Hot honey since I figured it gives the same vibe. Added a bit of parmesan cheese on top after baking, then used one scoop of sour cream on the side! it resembled a earthier Italian shell dish. 6

Your recipe didn't include a history lesson

☆ magicmau5 ?. reviewed Chinese Fried Rice. 19 hours ago The main issue I have with this recipe is probably the mindset or attitude of the creator. Chinese cuisine is extremely rich and has thousands of years of heritage, with the "8 great cuisines” representing different geographical regions: Guangdong (Cantonese), Sichuan, Hunan, Shandong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Fujian. The creator makes zero mention of the region where this supposed "Chinese" dish came from, which makes me think they are either sus or lack some basic knowledge of Chinese cooking and culture. Most people say that fried rice originated from the Jiangsu region, because that area has historically eaten a lot of rice (as opposed to other regions that favor noodles). As for the usefulness of this recipe, if you've never read The Woks of Life blog's recipe book or accessed their blog recipe posts featuring fried rice before, you might think this recipe is decent. However, compared to The Woks of Life recipes (which are actually made by cooks with Chinese heritage), the tips and techniques mentioned in their recipes are about 100x more useful and the food made from their recipes are more tasty. I'm sorry to give this recipe a mediocre rating of 2 stars for those reasons. As a side note, I'm a Mexican American person who simply likes and admires traditional and modern Chinese culture (the information I learned before is what I randomly discovered after reading countless Chinese web novels that describe delicious Chinese delicacies). All the information I mentioned here can be easily found by searching Google. Which is partly why I was disappointed by this recipe (it doesn't take much effort to learn more about Chinese cooking history or terminology). ✓ Like Reply

Didn't sound like I'd like it, so I changed it

NIKKI - JULY 23, 2017 @ 7:15 AM REPLY I made this recipe with a few tweaks! I added sesame oil, rice vinegar, lots more garlic, garlic salt, mushrooms, and asparagus. I omitted the dried herbs. And I cooked on low for about 5 hours. After it finished I reduced the sauce on stove top and added heavy cream. It was still a thin sauce however it was so tasty and creamy! The original recipe didn't sound like it'd be my favorite, but with these few tweaks the whole family loved the meal.

Whole lot of changes

Gyui reviewed William Shatner's Cappuccino Muffins. 10 hours ago Verdict is still out if I would attempt these again. I tried these with some of the suggestions from others. I didn't like the texture, seemed almost doughy and chewy like after baking for 20 min, then baked an additional 5 min. The color was odd to, pale like. They baked up beautifully and the taste seemed ok. I didn't add chocolate chips, substituted oil, used brown sugar, used and doubled instant coffee, flavorand smell still seemed very subtle. They werent very sweet, I also mixed water and can milk. The batter wasn't my favorite and anticipated a stronger and more pleasant muffin smell while they baked at 400 in a convection oven. Included some shredded chocolate bar. They're soft, just reminds me more of almost bread like and different texture. Tasted good with frosting, cinnamon was different. I'd try without cinnamon and more essence and sweetener. I was expecting a more cake like consistency. Give it a try you may enjoy it, wasnt 5 stars for. I got about 5.5 muffin size. Ease of recipe, method and clear instructions 5 stars.

Anybody have a kitchen fire?

EQ Cooking garlic. Reply. Is this helpful? ויסיייס Charlotte 2 months ago. Anybody have a kitchen fire? Drops of water skittered about the wok on high but did not evaporate within 2 seconds. Deciding it was hot anyway I put in the the oil. Huge flames. ensued until my husband smothered them with a lid. Medium high is plenty hot enough for some stoves. Put the oil in early and a shrimp to gauge the sizzle. Saves panic and things go much better. Reply Is this helpful? Jane 2 months ago What a wonderful recipe! Easy and oh so delicious! I used more ginger than called for...same amt as garlic, and it was excellent. A new favorite! Reply Is this helpful? ☐ Save |||

Nixza Hernandez 12/04/2014 I have never embarked on the task of making "authentic" Mexican tamales. Although I am Puerto Rican, I want to try my hand at making these to expand my culinary skills and experiences. Based on other comments here, I will give this, untried-as-of-yet recipe a 4-star rating. The comments seem quite reasonable and since I've known my way about a kitchen, seem perfectly valid and justifiable at a 4-star rating at this time. I hope to someday soon, add my photos of my first tamale attempt. Wish me luck! Helpful (2)

"Not sure what went wrong"

Sally August 13, 2023 10:38 am Hubby hates chocolate so I left out the cocoa powder and chocolate chips and doubled the rhubarb. Sorry to say we were both disappointed with the results. You'd think a whole cup of sugar would make it sweet, but it was extremely tart and unpalatable, and the texture was strange. Far from the tasty treat we were hoping for... not sure what went wrong! 100%. Highly recommend! Thank you so much for this keeper recipe. Reply • ↑ A AndyKVA 1d ago ... I haven't made it. I'm not likely to make it. I wouldn't want the marshmallow, or the graham cracker crust. I would want dark chocolate. I would want crunchy peanut butter. From reading the comments, I'm guessing it's too salty also. But other than those things .... I wonder if anyone has tried making it with some bacon? Reply 10 ↑ Show More Reviews
