You've probably heard of the running joke that Tony Hawk is never recognized in public, and is often believed to be just a guy who resembles Tony Hawk. But you may not have known that this is a very common phenomenon. Applying to both people who are famous and people who are specialists in their fields, people often aren't able to recognize the people they're speaking with, both in person and online. The results of this can be pretty disastrous and embarrassing.

At the same time, we don't really feel bad for the people who try to start up drama online, and they pretty much got what was coming to them. We just can't imagine how awkward they felt realizing they just said something very idiotic to a person who knows way, way better than them.
