"And if Toadette powers up with the Super Crown… ta-da! She turns into Peachette!"

With this simple sentence, Nintendo unleashed a hellstorm that in less than two weeks has burned the entire internet to the ground (more or less). Advertising New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo introduced the Super Crown feature that turns Toadette into a near-identical clone of Peach. This was likely done so players could play as Peach in a Super Mario game in which Peach is, as usual, captured by Bowser. However, diehard Nintendo fans were blown away by the lore implications of the Super Crown in the Mario universe. Kotaku wondered:

"Is Toadette envious of her supreme ruler? Is Peach some ideal she strives for, the perfect form of femininity that all Mushroom people uphold? Or is this something darker? Does Toadette want to usurp Peach? Does she want to become her?"

But satirical lore analysis later gave way to an even fresher hell with the introduction of "Bowsette," a fan comic imagining Bowser getting the Super Crown and dating Mario.

This comic opened the floodgates, inspiring hundreds of fan art drawings of Rule 63 Bowser. Interpretations of the character absolutely dominated Twitter last weekend. And yes, things got lewd. Here are some of our (safe for work) favorites.
