What Is The Viral 'Pink Stanley Cup' And Why Is It Causing Mayhem Across Stores In The U.S.? The 'Stanley Tumbler' Craze And It's Memes Explained
It's not Black Friday and people are sleeping in front of Target stores to get their hands on the latest trending item on the internet, the Stanley Quencher tumbler.
What was almost a failed item that had stopped restocking in 2019 was turned into the company's 2023 biggest and most successful items among female customers, propelling Stanley's annual sales from US$70 million in 2019 to $750 million in 2023.
Not only has the product been a must for teens and the female demographic, but a limited edition Stanley Tumbler released in December 2023 has been causing mayhem across department stores across the United States. Let's understand all the buzz surrounding the Stanley coffee mug.
What Is The 'Stanley Quencher Tumbler'?
The Stanley company introduced the 40-US-fluid-ounce (1,200 mL) Quencher tumbler (shown below) sometime in 2016, which is a bottle known for keeping beverages hot and cold (depending on the drink it holds) for a long time.
How Did The 'Stanley Quencher Tumbler' Become So Desirable And Who Or What Started The Stanley Cup Trend?
Although the Quencher didn't receive substantial sales or viral attention upon release, the company even decided to stop restocking and marketing it in 2019. However, The Buy Guide E-commerce founders bought 5,000 Quenchers from Stanley at wholesale cost in mid-2019 and sold out of the item in five days, which reportedly inspired the company to restock the product.
Moving forward to 2023, the item has become a huge marketing success for Stanley. On December 23rd, 2023, CNBC posted a video on YouTube explaining how the product became a viral sensation (shown below).
Why People Are Waiting Hours Outside Target Stores To Get A 'Pink Stanley Quencher Tumbler'?
On January 3rd, 2024, Starbucks and Stanley collaborated on an exclusive, limited-edition, pink Starbucks x Stanley Quencher available only in Starbucks stores at Target locations. The magenta-pink Stanley instantly drove customers to behave like it was a Black Friday deal. For example, on January 5th, TikTo] user @vincentmarcus spent a night in a Target line to get the Stanley x Starbucks tumbler and posted a video about it (shown below), which received over 5 million plays.
