About
Stanley Quencher Tumbler, also known simply as the Stanley Cup, refers to a type of stainless steel tumbler from the brand Stanley that became a trend or "craze" online in late 2023 and early 2024. Known for keeping beverages hot and cold depending on the drink it holds for a long time, the "Quencher Tumbler" product was first launched in 2016 but saw a significant rise in virality in early January 2024 after a limited-edition Stanley stainless steel tumbler caused lines and chaos in Target stores across the U.S. The item is also frequently mentioned in memes and jokes for its cult-like fandom on social media, similar to Hydro Flask products in years prior.
History
Sometime in 2016, the Stanley[1] company introduced the 40-US-fluid-ounce (1,200 mL) Quencher tumbler (shown below). The Quencher hadn't received substantial sales or viral attention upon release, and the company decided to stop restocking and marketing it in 2019. However, The Buy Guide E-commerce founders bought 5,000 Quenchers from Stanley at wholesale cost in mid-2019 and sold out of the item in five days, which reportedly inspired the company to restock the product.[2]
By 2023, the bottle became one of the most successful items among female customers, propelling the company's annual sales from $70 million in 2019 to $750 million in 2023.[3]
On August 29th, 2022, Stanley uploaded a product video for the "Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler" to its official YouTube channel, which received over 220,000 views and 500 likes in roughly a year and a half (seen below).
Online Presence
At the end of 2023 and January 2024, the Stanley tumbler reportedly became one of the most desired products across the U.S., especially with teens and females as the main demographic. For instance, on December 23rd, 2023, CNBC posted a video[3] on YouTube explaining how the product became a viral sensation (shown below), which amassed over 616,000 views and 4,400 likes in two weeks.
2024 Pink Stanley Cup Trend and Craze
In late December 2023 and early January 2024, a limited-edition pink Stanley stainless steel tumbler became a viral phenomenon on the internet as people were seen causing mayhem at Target stores across the U.S. attempting to purchase one.
For example, on December 31st, 2023, a TikTok[4] video posted by user @victoria_robino_26 showing several people rushing to get a special Valentine's Day Stanley Cup at Target went viral. The video (shown below, left) received more than 22 million plays and 1.1 million likes in a week. On January 5th, TikTok[5] user @vincentmarcus spent a night in a Target line to get the Stanley x Starbucks tumbler and posted a video about it (shown below, right), which received over 5 million plays and 341,000 likes in three days.
