Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers, I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of memes fail, when they forsake us and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day, because today is the day we recap the memes of the week.

This week started promisingly enough, with some good, wholesome Pokémon memes and average shitposts dominating the scene, before a debate about a certain picture of Alvin and the Chipmunks tore the internet apart. But we'll get to that: first, here are the memes of the week.

Vibe Check

One of the oddest memes of the week started earlier this month on Tumblr. The phrase Vibe Check began getting paired with heinously (and hilariously) violent acts, leading to dozens of bizarre posts that you either think are absolutely hilarious or don't get at all. Pretty par for the course for a Tumblr meme.

Jonah Hill Dropping Coffee

Last week, a Perfectly Timed Photo of Jonah Hill losing his coffee began spreading online. The picture has all the qualities of an instant meme: a celebrity caught in the moment right before imminent disaster and sadness. It led to a series of jokes and object labeling edits in which Hill's coffee represented the things we love that are soon to be gone from this world. Hill, in good humor, mourned the loss of his coffee on Instagram.

Ash Ketchum Becomes Pokémon League Champion

Better late than never, eh? For 20 years, Ash Ketchum has been getting his butt kicked in official Pokémon League tournaments, including with a heartbreaking loss in the Kalos region. Now he's the first regional champion of the Alola region, and though the victory is nice, some fans have found it bittersweet. For many fans, the news was the first real story they'd heard about the Pokémon anime in over a decade, and those fans were disappointed in the new art style for the series. Others felt the Kalos loss was so cheap that the Alola victory rings hollow. Nevertheless, 22 years after his tenth birthday, Ash Ketchum is now Pokémon League champion, and perhaps he can finally turn 11.

Sirfetch'd

Elsewhere in the Pokémon universe, Nintendo revealed Sirfetch'd, an evolution of Farfetch'd exclusive to Pokémon Sword. This gallant, leek-wielding swordsman immediately captured the hearts of memers and fans alike, and both groups quickly got to making art of the character. While it's yet to be seen if Sirfetch'd will be an effective new Pokémon, he is already serving as a great defender of group chats, with users making extra long versions which can be used to make the content you don't want to see go away, such as…

Who's Getting The Best Head?

Well, it's finally time to talk about it. This week, an awful Rule 34 picture of Alvin and the Chipmunks getting oral sex from the Chipettes prompted a dynamic and at times academic debate about which of the three lads is getting the best head. The conversations have been fierce, as Redditors have typed out paragraphs defending their reasoning behind their selections. Factions have been created, with, from personal observation, the Simonists and Theodorists fighting most bitterly. It may not be a pleasant image to look at, but the whole fiasco it has caused is a reminder of just how ridiculously fun the internet can be when tasked with an absolutely stupid problem.
