See The Winner Of March 2022's Meme Of The Month!
And the meme of March 2022 goes to…
While The Slap only happened on March 27th, the five days of incessant tweeting, memeing and discussing the juicy incident proved to be more than enough to cement the spiciest moment of the Oscars as the most memorable meme of the entire month. Exploitable, jokes, references, image macros, TikToks, etc.: it looks like everyone on the internet saw Will Smith slapping Chris Rock and had to say something about it. Dominant top spot with 40 percent of your votes.
My Brother in Christ
In the second place with 17 percent of votes sits a meme that initially entered the fray as a light-hearted euphemism for the N-word but quickly became more than that. We're talking, of course, about My Brother in Christ, the slang word, no, the honorific that defined the month – and it feels like it's here to stay.
Elden Ring
It's really a wonder that March managed to spawn as many quality memes and formats as it did, as it really felt that the meme economy was about to take a huge dip due to too many people spending the entirety of their time playing Elden Ring. From No Maidens to Pope Turtle, the open-world game spawned nearly 20 sub-memes, and we're only counting those that made an impact. Could this be a GOTY? Too early to tell, but for now let us award FromSoft's game with a bronze medal in our monthly poll as 12 percent of you voted for it.
Homophobic Dog / Not Too Fond of Gay People
Winston Chewston, better known as Homophobic Dog, has been floating as a reaction and a shitpost since March 2022 but has really picked up steam after gimmick account Animals with Captions and its subs turned into a powerhouse of a meme. Since then, Chewston has been expressing strong opinions about a whole bunch of hot topics. Would he be fond of getting 6 percent of your votes and being placed fourth on our list?
Berserk Skeletons
While the acclaimed dark fantasy manga and anime series Berserk has plenty of memes and in-jokes to offer, hardly any of them have achieved such mainstream popularity as Berserk Skeletons. Spawned in rather unfortunate circumstances on TikTok, the format has been used to dunk on cringeworthy content, with the red-tinted skeletons incinirating cringe with their empty stares. Fifth place with 5 percent of the votes.
Klaud / Live Slug Reaction
Somehow, March 2022 managed to spawn not one, but two ironically homophobic memes. We are talking, of course, about Klaud from Star Wars, whose bulging eyes have been staring down the moments of queer love and tension for the entire month in the Live Slug Reaction meme format. Interesting, but the Live X Reaction started almost a year earlier with Live Tucker Reaction, but the giant slug became the shining jewel in this crown. Five percent of your votes grant Klaud sixth place on our list.
Quandale Dingle
At the bottom of the top half of our list with three percent of total votes, we have the CEO of goofy ahh names, Quandale Dingle himself. One of the top shitposting trends of the month, the man's name alone was enough to fuel his meme powers as people created fake Rap TV news about the guy and sneaked him into memes. Haters will say otherwise, but Quandale Dingle is a real person, and we stan him.
Among the memes that didn't make it to the top but nonetheless managed to get us through March are VTubers-on-a-budget PNGtubers (3%), the revealing Curtain Call Challenge (2%), the mathematically puzzling 77+33=100 (2%), the extremely pectoral Cover Them Up, Slut (6%), soggy Wet Owl (2%) and the know-it-all Nerd Emoji (2%).
Did your favorite meme make it to the top? Don't forget to cast your vote next month!
