We're rounding the corner on Spooktober, with only one more week to go, and things are finally starting to get spooky. The big memes that we saw this weekend all have a particular theme … that of our demise. First up, we have Showing Grandma My Shiny Dusknoir, followed by Everywhere At The End of Time and, finally, Pope Francis Holding Eucharist Edits. Each of these memes on their own wouldn't be a huge deal, but to have them come together on Spooktober is quite the "spookincidence."

Showing Grandma My Shiny Dusknoir

Showing Grandma My Shiny Dusknoir is a very good lesson in time and place, as well as respecting the dead. It all started with a 4chan thread in which a user posted a picture of them playing Pokemon Sword and Shield on their Nintendo Switch while at their grandma's memorial service … with her laying in the casket in the background.

Not to leave it at just one cringeworthy picture, OP continued on and posted a timestamped photo of their Shiny Dusknoir over the body, cementing this post's place in history as it would go on to be one of the most replied-to posts of all time on the /vp/ (Pokemon) board. The memes this spawned consisted of two main varieties: either photoshopping the Switch to have a different thing on its screen or editing the hand and Switch into different scenes of tragedies to show how kooky the original post was. This type of absurdity has the potential to stay relevant for a while, but with it being made in light of this guy's dead grandmother, some users may be keen on letting the meme die out completely.

Pope Francis Holding Eucharist Edits

Some savvy meme traders may remember that Pope Francis Holding Eucharist Edits was already a meme earlier this year. What happened to bring this meme back from the dead was a new way to showcase it: using tiles to turn it into a four-panel meme.

With this new four-panel version out, it's not only easier to change what the Pope is holding, but it adds an extra layer of creativity to see how well the pictures line up together to form the known meme. It also allows for more creative use in deciding what items are held, as Photoshop or other programs are not required to change his object. This meme has an established base, high versatility and can be easily recreated on Twitter, giving it a serious pair of legs to stand on.

Everywhere At The End of Time

Everywhere At The End of Time refers to the musical albums released in a series by musician The Caretaker. Much like Emergence the point of the music is to start off innocently sweet before twisting and becoming more and more unstable. This contrast between the beginning and ending parts, combined with the overall creepy vibe given off by the music throughout, has made it something to be memed about in a "shared trauma" sort of way.

The majority of the memes made about it are references to how the simulated dementia makes your brain feel, or how the listener felt dread after the experience. These types of memes aren't too mainstream and don't stick around long, but they do leave a lasting impact on those who have been cursed with knowledge of them.
