Amandine

Submission   5,475

A few years after Dadane and Bilal du 92 gathered internet popularity, France was once again, blessed with a hip-hop meme when 18 year old not-really-good-looking girl Amandine (staged as "Amandine du 38", 38 being the zip code of the area, or "Miss Amandine") uploaded a freestyle rap video on her youtube and skyblog account in early 2009.

The song called "Les écoles du Sénègal" (Schools in Senegal) is a vaguely protesting song, featuring poor lyrics about poverty in Africa, stutterings and mistold words.

The original video generated numerous viewcounts and a large number of parodies, spoofs, video responses and remixes.

Amandine then uploaded another freestyle rap as a response to the critics, causing the meme to gain popularity.

Aftermath

Amandine on French national TV channel M6.

French national radio NRJ making fun of Amandine

Capitalizing on internet popularity.

In may 2010, it appeared that Amandine would start a legitimate rapper career as this official videoclip of a new song surfaced on Youtube and Dailymotion.

On july 11, 2010 Amandine made a statement on French videohost Dailymotion, claiming she's going to sue Youtube if her videos were deleted.
