Bro WTF My Pilot Doing refers to a photo taken while boarding a plane of the pilot sitting at his seat in the cockpit looking at the screen of what appears to be a laptop. The image on the laptop screen is photoshopped to change the context.

Origin

On January 8th, 2018, /u/foozefookie posted an image to /r/dankmemes^[1] of a plane's pilot's-side window from the outside of the craft, appearing as if it was taken while boarding the plane, with a label running across the bottom reading "bro wtf my pilot doing." The left side of the pilot's arm and head can be seen, as well as a laptop on his lap, which is displaying an image of the Twin Towers going down in the Septermber 11th, 2001 Attacks, photoshopped over the original screen (shown below). The post text reads, "when you catch the pilot doing some interesting research" and garnered over 11,000 upvotes in 3 years.

Spread

On January 11th, 2018, Stoney Roads posted a newly photoshopped version of the image featuring music production software on the laptop screen to Facebook^[2] under the caption, "When flying pays the bills but you got EDM dreams… ✈️" garnering over 300 reactions in 3 years (shown below, left). Facebook page ">implying music is good" posted a similar photoshop to their Facebook^[3] on February 20th, garnering over 1,200 reactions and 200 shares in just under 3 years (shown below, right).

On December 18th, Ｓｅｃｏｎｄ Ｓｉｇｈｔ 幽玄 posted a version of the image with an anime girl photoshopped onto the screen to Facebook^[4] (shown below, left). The image was re-posted by Facebook^[6] page Anime Diet on January 20th, 2020, garnering over 2,100 reactions and 600 shares in a year. On July 27th, 2019, /u/Amlon posted a version of the image with a Minecraft screenshot photoshopped onto the laptop to /r/dankmemes,^[5] garnering over 13,400 upvotes in roughly a year (shown below, right).
