Chokun started to become a meme when an Instagram user @bricks.by.mind named his inactive second account @itz_chokun. Once that was discovered, people started taking a liking to Chokun, especially @bricks.by.mind himself. It's unknown why everyone loved Chokun so much, but it probably had to do with the fact that he had short legs and over sized teeth. Soon after, Chokun's popularity skyrocketed, when Mind himself, as well as other Instagram users @the_Lego_Fandom and @lego.storm created the hashtag #ChokunAppreciationDay on September 28, 2014. The hashtag got over 40 posts that day, and Chokun became well known throughout the Lego community. A few other memes were created involving Chokun. For example, one which showed an episode from Ninjago, where Chokun asks Lord Garmadon, the villain in Ninjago, to create a giant ham sandwich, but gets thrown over the edge of a boat. An image was uploaded of Lord Garmadon laying in a chair, with Chokun serving him drinks. This started the hashtag #StopChokunAbuse, which got 30 posts on Instagram, as well as being commented on almost any post found where Chokun was being "Mistreated".
After 2015, the Hashtags involving Chokun seemed to stop, but he was becoming popular on many more Instagram pages. He was brought to popularity once again when @bricks.by.mind and two other Instagram accounts, @legojear and @elitebrixproductions started "The Day Before Sunday Stream" on YouTube, where they discussed Lego and other things. They said that themselves and the viewers of the stream were now members of the "TSSOTSSS", which also started a hashtag with the same name on Instagram. They mentioned in the stream that "Members of TSSOTSSS recognize Chokun as our Overlord. All hail Chokun."
There have been no other events directly involving Chokun yet, but he still continues to be a popular and well known character and joke throughout the Lego Instagram Community.
