Dakota Johnson "I'm Actually Allergic to Limes" refers to a series of screenshots of actress Dakota Johnson taken 9 months apart, often shared together, one in which Johnson is saying how much she loves limes, and another in which she says she's actually allergic to limes.
Origin
On March 11th, 2020, Architectural Digest uploaded a video tour of Dakota Johnson's house to YouTube[1] garnering over 15 million views in 10 months. At 4:58, Johnson shows the camera operator a bowl of limes and says, "I love limes. I love them. They're great. I love them so much, and I love to present them like this in my house" (shown below).
On January 19th, 2021, Johnson appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the interview, Fallon mentions the limes and asks Johnson what she does with all of them, to which she responds, "I actually didn't even know that they were in there. I was giving the tour and went into the kitchen and they – it was set dressing. I'm actually – I'm allergic to limes" (shown below).[2]

On January 20th, 2021, @EMM4STONE tweeted,[3] "Dakota Johnson selling her house and confessing she hates limes is the biggest plot twist of 2021" along with two captioned screenshots, one from the Architectural Digest video, and one from the Tonight Show interview, garnering over 123,000 likes and 11,800 retweets in 5 days (shown below). As the tweet went viral, it inspired other users to edit the captions in the images to change the context, usually replacing the word "limes" with something else.
On January 23rd, @bridgersfilm tweeted.[4] "me at 10 vs me now" above the two images, with the word "limes" changed to "men" in each, garnering over 57,100 likes and 7,600 retweets in 2 days (shown below, left). On the same day, BuzzFeed [7] and The Independent[8] reported on Johnson's lie. On January 24th, @oncleyazz tweeted,[5] "me writing as a hobby vs me writing for uni" over the two images, changing "limes" to "essays" garnering over 40,600 likes and 4,700 retweets in a day (shown below, right).
