On January 10th, 2020, Instagram [1] account @houseofeffie posted a series of direct messages allegedly from actor Armie Hammer in which he discusses cannibalism and sex leaked online (shown below).

That day, on January 10th, 2020, Twitter [2] user @tevinauguste shared the tweets with the caption "Armie Hammer me fait trop peur pardon, t'es marié et tu veux baiser en soum soum avec tt Instagram?" (translation: "Armie Hammer scares me too much sorry, are you married and you want to fuck as a submissive with tt Instagram?"). That day, @tevinauguste reshared the DMs with the caption,[3] "Multiple victims of Armie Hammer came out saying he used his fame to manipulate em to have sex, calling em 'kitties' and drink their BLOOD, now WHAT IN HANNIBAL LECTER???" The tweet received more than 8,500 likes and 7,600 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, left and center, respectively).
Following the posts, people began joking about the situation online. Comedian Paul F. Thompkins, for example, tweeted[5] a parody of "We Didn't Start the First". The tweet received more than 16,000 likes and 2,000 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, left). Twitter[6] user @gatamchun tweeted a The What meme with the caption, "Me: *minding my own damn business* Twitter trends: hey have u seen the armie hammer cannibal dms." The tweet received more than 5,600 likes and 800 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
Validity
On January 10th, 2020, Twitter user @bshxdepp tweeted[4] a series of alleged direct messages with @houseofeffie in which they admit to faking the direct messages. The tweet received more than 3,700 likes and 500 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, left).
On January 11th, writer Jessica Ciencin Henriquez, who according to Just Jared[11] was "once linked to Armie Hammer" tweeted,[12] "If you are still questioning whether or not those Armie Hammer DMs are real (and they are) maybe you should start questioning why we live in a culture willing to give abusers the benefit of the doubt instead of victims. Thinking face TW// sexual violence."
That day, @houseofeffie shared a post on Instagram claiming that the DM being shared in which she forging the DMs is fake (shown below, right).
