About

Gunshot Bride is an early 2010s meme that originated from the Valve game Team Fortress 2. It involves a sound clip of Pendulum's "Propane Nightmares" playing over a video clip from the game in which a player successfully hits an enemy with a projectile attack while the enemy is in midair. This action is commonly referred to as an "airshot," and this meme has been seen on YouTube from its inception in late 2009 to present day as a means of highlighting skillful, lucky, and bizarre clips from the game in which an airshot has occurred.

Origin

On December 5th, 2009, user "tf2worms" uploaded a video titled "100% skilled airshot," in which a dramatic, slow motion build up to a successful airshot of an enemy player is set to Propane Nightmares. This video gained popularity due to the unusual nature of the attack succeeding, as the enemy player appeared to fall out of the sky into tf2worms' rocket.

Spread

Following this initial video, tf2worms would go on to upload "200% skilled airshot", a video similar to the first one in which he successfully connects an attack seemingly out of luck, as his teammate detonates sticky bombs that propel the enemy into his rocket.

Players would continue to upload videos under the "skilled airshot" moniker, with videos such as Ivan's own "200% Skilled Airshot", reyathae's "200% SKILLED AIRSHOT", and tf2worms third video, "300% skilled airshot". The meme would later branch into the Overwatch community, with Saphiros' "200% skilled airshot" highlighting an action similar to that seen in Team Fortress. Noted Team Fortress 2 youtuber LazyPurple's, "THE BEST 9 HOURS OF TF2 EVER", highlighted the customary use of Gunshot Bride as a means of denoting an airshot.

Gunshot Bride has since continued to be used in players' Team Fortress 2 clips, with user Toopy uploading "Gunshot Bride" on April 6th, 2020 and user TheMostEpicest uploading "The Cleanest Airshot I've Ever Hit" on October 18th, 2022.
