#HistoryLesson refers to a hashtag on TikTok in which users use paper to label themselves certain historical figures, then act out a skit representing the historical events.

Origin

The began under the hashtag #history in February of 2019. On February 10th, 2019, TikTok user lastmanstanley posted a skit in which he imagined Abraham Lincoln being assassinated because John Wilkes Booth spied on him through his web camera. The video gained over 46,000 likes (shown below).

Spread

Several similar videos appeared over the following months before they were fitted to the hashtag "#HistoryLesson." Some include a TikTok by @erinlanier that gained over 10,000 likes (shown below, left). Another by @jylecrennan gained over 56,000 likes (shown below, right).

The hashtag #HistoryLesson began seeing use in April of 2019. Early examples using the hashtag include TikToks by @gamerguyboy123, gaining over 41,000 likes (shown below, left) and another by @simply.monisah that gained over 21,000 likes (shown below, right). The videos were covered by StayHipp[1] on May 2nd, 2019.
