"I'll beat your ass… if you pay me for it!" originated as a joke in a 2016 ironic comedy video titled, "This Happens at Every Bar Ever" by YouTuber Hot Dad. In it, two characters are seen feuding in a bar. One angrily threatens the other, stating that he'll beat up the other man, but only if he pays him for it. The second man eagerly accepts the deal, negotiates a fair price, pays, and is happily beaten.
A handful of image macros were included in the video, along with a message encouraging others to create their own variations.
