I'll Take This Over an Expensive Night Out Any Day is an exploitable of a couple on a bed watching television with the caption "I'll take this over an expensive night out any day." Since going viral in December 2019, people have digitally altered what the couple is watching on television.

Origin

The earliest known usage of the photograph of the couple on the bed was posted by Twitter ^[2] user @rellationshipx on October 5th, 2019. The tweet received more than 780 likes and 290 retweets (shown below (shown below, left).

Following the post, people began adding digitally-altered versions of the image. For example, on December 14th, Facebook ^[4] user highzoneofficial1 posted a version in which the couple watches the cartoon Tom and Jerry. The post received more than 560 reactions and 70 comments in less than one month (shown below, right).

On December 21st, 2019, Twitter ^[3] user @itstammz_ tweeted, in a since-deleted post, "I’ll take this over any expensive night out." The post, which could not be verified as the origin of the meme, received more than 23,000 likes and 7,900 retweets before deletion.

That day, @yungs0fti3 tweeted^[1] a photograph of a couple watching a pornographic video of three people having sex. They captioned the image, "i’ll take this over an expensive night out any day." Within one month, the post, which is the first available example of the meme, received more than 39,000 likes and 10,500 retweets (shown below, left).

Following the original posting of the image, others posted altered versions of the meme. For example, on December 28th, Instagram ^[5] user @sonny5ideup posted a version in which the couple is playing the video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. The post received more than 22,000 likes in less than one week (shown below, left).

On January 2nd, 2020, Imgur ^[6] user doodlCakeCat shared a version in which the couple is watching 1 Guy 1 Jar. The post received more than 54,000 views and 1,400 points in less than 24 hours (shown below, center).
