About

One Minute I Be Dancing, continued Then Outta Nowhere I Just Be Sad, Shawty, refers to a promotional video for a fictional mayoral campaign run by rapper Teezo Touchdown known as the "Rid The Mid" campaign focused on getting mid, or low-grade music off the streets. The original sound from the video went viral on TikTok in September 2021.

Origin

On July 20th, 2021, musical artist Teezo Touchdown posted a promotional video to YouTube[2] titled "life is like a party shawty" for a fake mayoral campaign he's running in promotion of his music. The campaign is known as the "rid the mid" campaign[1] and looks to get low-quality music off the streets. In the video, shot in VHS quality, three Black men are seen dancing in an alleyway. One then stops the others and asks if they're in a safe place and they assure him he is. He then says, "Shawty I ain't gonna lie, one minute I be dancin'," dances a little, then says, "then outta nowhere I just be sad, shawty" (shown below). His friends assure him it's okay to feel sad sometimes, using hearing a "mid" song as an example of how temporary sadness is. The video gained over 12,000 views in three months.

Spread

On September 13th, 2021, TikToker @itznotjoshuaitsjosh posted the video to their page, gaining over 4.7 million views in just under a month. The original sound became notably popular on TikTok[3][4] over the course of the month in lip dub and dancing skits about explaining emotions to someone (top examples shown below, left and right). The TikToker often dances at the point where the character in the original skit does.
