Rinsing the Chocolate Off Chocolate Bars refers to a trend on TikTok in which users rinse the chocolate off chocolate bars and other chocolate-coated candy by holding them under a running tap as a "health hack" in order to troll viewers.

Origin

On December 9th, 2020, @di1lward, who has a history of posting troll life hacks, posted a video to TikTok^[1] with the on-screen caption, "Health hack #18" in which she holds three sticks of Pocky under hot water to wash all the chocolate off, describing how her boyfriend got them for her but the chocolate is too sweet (shown below). The video gained over 3.2 million views in just over a month, with many in the comments expressing outrage and hoping the poster is joking.

Spread

By January of 2021, other TikTokers were inspired to use the sound while washing chocolate off various candies. On January 7th, 2021, @flavduma uploaded a video to TikTok^[2] set to the sound washing the chocolate off peanut M&M's, garnering over 3.3 million views in 2 weeks (shown below, left). On January 10th, @call_to_duty uploaded a video^[3] washing the chocolate off a Twix, making it appear as if there's a hotdog underneath, garnering over 7.3 million views in just under 2 weeks (shown below, right).

On January 11th, @call_to_duty uploaded another video^[4] following the trend, this time with Almond Joy, garnering over 8.7 million views in 11 days (shown below, left). On January 12th, @dreampops uploaded a video to TikTok^[5] washing the chocolate off one of their products, garnering over 6.9 million views in 10 days (shown below, right).
