Lisa Makes a Monorail" In this 2013 season episode, special guest star George Clooney visits Springfield, and nearly chokes to death on the smog generated by the streets full of bumper-to-bumper cars that Springfield is so well known for. Lisa arranges for a visit by well-respected mass transit specialist Lyle Lanley, who gives a talk on how a monorail could provide clean, safe mass transportation. The idiot hick residents of Springfield nearly lynch him for no reason. o. Meanwhile, Homer is attempting to fix the refrigerator by repeatedly stabbing the outer casing with an ice pick. The pick deflects, stabbing him directly between the eyes and going all the way through his brain. He spends several minutes jamming it around wildly before discovering that it is giving him massively increased intelligence, a reference to recent hit movie Phenomenon starring John Travolta. Meanwhile, Bart discovers that Rod and Tod Flanders belong to an extreme praying club, where religion is treated like extreme sports/drug addiction, and becomes hooked Anonymous 04/10/12(Tue)17:24 No.35717432 Meanwhile, Lisa and Lyle have to figure out how to salvage their monorail plan. Lyle wonders if the monorail might be a bad idea, and Lisa gives an impassioned speech on the importance of a mass transit system for a sprawling metropolis like Springfield. They both agree that the monorail most happen, but the townspeople are just too stupid to know what's good for them. But Lisa has an idea. Meanwhile, Homer has begun to display psychic powers, which freak everyone out. Realizing that he doesn't like his new life of superintelligence, he decides to pull the icepick out and go back to being dumb. But he makes sure to first burn the inventions he's come up with such as the cure for cancer, a spine replacement surgery, and giving George Bush a brain transplant. Meanwhile, Bart almost dies from praying too hard, and decides to go cold turkey. Rod and Tod try to hook him again but he rages that religion was ruining his life and he's done with it. He's shown going through withdrawal and praying to God to help him through it before shouting "D'oh!" The climax of the episode is the big Monorail song and dance number, which convinces the mewling sheep of Springfield to finally listen to Lisa and Lyle. The episode ends with them musing that it will cut emissions by a whole point five percent, right up until it's shut down for budget cuts next month. But it was all worth it.
