That's Why Yo Mama Dead is a memorable quote from a viral video by comedian Khadi. The video, which parodies someone getting too personal when joking with friends, has inspired a series of remix videos. The video is also known as That’s Why Yo Shoes Raggedy.

Origin

On March 6th, 2019, comedian Khadi posted the original video on Instagram, a sketch about a friend who gets too personal when joking with another. In response to the insult "that's why your shoes raggedy" they say, "That's why yo mama dead. Dead as hell. What shoes she got on in her casket. That's why yo granny ain't go no knees because she can't pray to Jesus, bitch. How about that? She can't double dutch. That's why yo baby got a glass eye and when she cry you got to clean it with Windex, bitch." The post received more than 1.6 million views and 235,000 likes in a little over one year (shown below).



Spread

Shortly after the post, others began posting remixes of the video. On June 14th, 2019, YouTuber Liam Rodriguez posted an animation featuring the audio from the original sketch. Within one year, the post received more than 42,000 views (shown below, left).

Months later, on Agust 23rd, YouTuber YT Derek Snippets posted a version of the sketch, lipsyncing to the audio. The post received more than 16,000 views in less than one year (shown below, right).
