World Leaders At G7 2021 refers to a photo op featuring leaders from countries at the 2021 G7 conference, including Joe Biden, Justin Trudeau, Boris Johnson, and others. The photo of the world leaders on a two-tiered platform led to jokes comparing the image to various humorous images from popular culture, such as video game character-select screens and musical numbers.
Origin
On June 11th, 2021, at the 2021 G7 conference, world leaders from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, and Germany, as well as representatives from the United Nations and European Union, posted for a group photo on a two-tiered platform (shown below).[1]
Spread
As the photo spread on Twitter, users there joked about the awkward nature of the photo by comparing it to various images from popular culture. User @davejorgenson[2] joked, "My favorite part of the G7 summit is the big musical number at the end," gaining over 530 retweets and 6,300 likes (shown below, left). User @malloriesullivn[3] quoted The Bachelor when reposting the photo, gaining over 110 likes (shown below, right).
Other jokes include a post by @Kalelprime,[4] who called the photo "the worst fighting game character select screen ever," gaining over 10 retweets and 60 likes (shown below, left). User @tinysnekcomics[5] joked, "which trap door will open first? vote now on your phones," gaining over 120 likes and 790 likes (shown below, right).
