The SOUL turns *black* (with a white outline so you can still see it) - but technically it becomes _empty_ (the background is black) - and *gradually turns gray over a short period of time*. Movement in this SOUL Mode is normal. However, when the SOUL becomes *fully gray*, control is lost and the SOUL is frozen in place until the enemy's attack is finished.

*The gimmick here* is that you can run all you want but eventually death will catch up to you. In other words, you have to predict how the enemy's attack will strike and move into a safe spot where you won't get hit before time runs out. When her scythe is black and passes over your SOUL, you do not take damage but instead changes your SOUL Mode to this. That being said, in some attacks it could be possible to avoid the black scythe and thus retain full control throughout the attack.
She can block the attack because she technically isn't a monster in the Undertale sense. She has physical matter. But trying to attack her might accomplish _something_ if her she let down her guard, like if she were _flustered._ *%{font-size:7pt}[Flirting instensifies]%* However, ACTing before FIGHTing at least once won't even evoke a response.
