Well, Tai is out of the loop. Qrow is talking to Raven, he knows what's going on with everything and why it happened and how.

Meanwhile, Tai has one dead wife, one missing wife (see above), one emotionally dead daughter (who used to be the life of the party), one daughter that is leaving the country for God-knows-why…

What Tai doesn't have is answers. Why? How? Qrow knows, but he's not telling.

So yeah, they're not on good terms.

I think Taiyang may consider Qrow a bad influence on Ruby since they have different ideas about how they should treat her. Taiyang wants to shelter her, whereas Qrow wants to support her and give it to her straight about everything going on.
