Kaplan said they're still working on what to do about Symmetra. One thing he stated is they may move her out of "support" and into "defense" because too many players associate "support" with "healer," and he said the developers do NOT want to turn Symmetra into a healer because it's not a role they ever wanted her to have in the first place.

He and the team are also trying to come up with a way to make her more viable for offensive play too as too many people only ever use her for defensive play on things like payload maps. In his own words he says they're aiming to make Symmetra "less of a situational character."

And yet Symmetra STILL can't get any love, from what I hear.
